Merseyside Derby
Sunday, 30 March 2008
Today one of the friendliest rivalries in English football kicks off again. I'm always amazed when I see Liverpool and Everton's fans mingling before, during and after the game. It's one local derby that really does split families and for all the name called the fans really do seem to get on. The same can't always be said about the action on the pitch, red cards and tackles flying in are all part of the Merseyside derby! Sky Sports are covering the game live (in HD as well), kick off is at 4pm UK time (don't forget that the clocks have gone forward).

The other game being shown live today is Chelsea v Middlesborough on Setanta Sports at 1:30.

Online the full list looks like:-

Chelsea - Middlesborough, True Sport 1 on SOPCast and TVAnts, BEN1 Sports on SOPCast.

Tottenham - Newcastle, Star Sports on SOPCast and TVAnts, BEN1 Sports on SOPCast. True Sport 3 on SOPCast and TVAnts.

Liverpool - Everton, True Sport 1 on SOPCast and TVAnts.

What I Have Learnt From The Last Weeks Football
Friday, 28 March 2008
So what did we all learn from Mega Hypa Ultra Grand Slam Sunday (to give it it's full title)? This is what I learnt:-

1. Somebody needs to turn down the hype machine at Sky Sports, turn that dial down from an 11 to a 6 would do nicely. Sunday was excellent, but nothing has been decided yet!
2. That Sky will count you out of the title race on a whim.
3. That Arsenal's age is working against them, maybe Alan Hansen was right after all?
4. Man Utd would be unstoppable if only somebody other than Ronaldo could hit a barn door with a banjo.
5. Any "good" Newcastle fan will no doubt tell you that they'll be winning the Premier League title next year, how could King Kev possibly fail? Hmmmmmm

Seriously I lost track of the number of times during the Chelsea Arsenal game that Sky commentators would right one or the other teams out of the title race. FFS, both teams are within 6 points, a gap that a seemingly in form Arsenal have let slip in no time. Nothing is decided yet.

These are this weekends fixtures:-

29.03 15:00 Birmingham - Manchester City
29.03 15:00 Bolton - Arsenal
29.03 15:00 Derby - Fulham
29.03 15:00 Portsmouth - Wigan
29.03 15:00 Reading - Blackburn
29.03 15:00 Sunderland - West Ham
29.03 17:15 Manchester Utd - Aston Villa
30.03 13:30 Chelsea - Middlesbrough
30.03 15:00 Tottenham - Newcastle
30.03 16:00 Liverpool - Everton

No prizes for picking the game of the weekend, got to be the Merseyside Derby. I've got £17 in my BetFair account and it's all going on Everton to cause an upset.

Grand Slam Sunday
Sunday, 23 March 2008
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last week you'll know that today is Grand Slam Sunday. Forget Jesus and all this resurrection stuff, Sky's Hyped Up Hype Machine has been on over drive. Grand Slam Sunday is actually just 2 games, Manchester United v Liverpool at Old Trafford and Chelsea v Arsenal at the bridge.

I hate the way that Sky hype these games up so much, it always smacks to me of false advertising as the actual games themselves end up being dull, boring defensive stale mates 90% of the time. At least if today's are boring affairs you can always console yourself with some Easter Chocolate (and beer).

If you're stuck at work then the games are all over the internet, just about any sports channel on SOPCast or TVAnts should see you right.

Man Utd v Bolton And Tottenham v Chelsea
Wednesday, 19 March 2008
A couple of cracking mid-week games tonight, Bolton go to the Old Trafford to take on Manchester United whilst Chelsea travel to Spurs hoping to carry on their winning form since losing in the Carling Cup Final.

Whilst on paper it should be an easy win for Man Utd they struggled badly to win away to Derby last weekend. Added to the fact that Bolton have already beat them this season and that they might have an eye on the Grand Slam Sunday game against Liverpool next Sunday and things might not be that easy. If they do win it will take them 3 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

In the other game Chelsea take on Tottenham for the first time since losing to them in this seasons Carling Cup Final. History is certainly with Chelsea a win tonight will see the draw level on points with Arsenal. Chelsea seem to be the form team at the moment, form which his seen them sneak well and truly into the race for the Premier League title. Once again though things might not be quite so plain sailing, not only have they already lost once to Spurs but they also might have some thoughts on their Grand Slam Sunday game against Arsenal which is rapidly approaching.

Both games kick-off at 8pm UK time. Sky Sports will have live coverage of the Man Utd v Bolton game, also in high definition.

Otherwise StarSports on TVAnts and SOPCast will be showing the Man U - Bolton game live.

The Spurs - Chelsea game will be on BEN1 Sports on SOPCast and Eurosoccer on TVAnts.

Todays 3 O'Clock Kick Off's Live
Saturday, 15 March 2008
No lunch time game today, all the action (well accept one game) is happening at the traditional time of 3 o'clock, Saturday afternoon. Arsenal - Middlesborough is the only exception and by the time they play at quarter past 5 (live on Setanta Sports) they might have lost their place at the top of the Premier League.

15.03 15:00 Derby - Manchester Utd
15.03 15:00 Liverpool - Reading
15.03 15:00 Portsmouth - Aston Villa
15.03 15:00 Sunderland - Chelsea
15.03 15:00 West Ham - Blackburn
15.03 17:15 Arsenal - Middlesbrough

With most of the games being played at 3 o'clock most people are going to have to wait for Football First on Sky Sports or Match Of The Day to catch up on the action. If you're not into that then the following is available online.

Derby v Manchester United, True Sport1 and BEN! Sports on SOPCast or Live3 on TVAnts.

Liverpool v Reading, Star Sports on TVAnts and SOPCast or True Sport 3 on SOPCast.

Portsmouth v Aston Villa, channel Live on TVAnts.

Sunderland v Chelsea, Live7 on TVAnts.

West Ham v Blackburn, True Sport 5 on SOPCast and TVAnts.

The late game between Arsenal and Middlesborough is being covered by most of the online sports channels but top of the list in terms of quality is Star Sports on either SOPCast or TVAnts.

Champions League Quarter Final Draw
Friday, 14 March 2008
I've just watched the Champions League quarter final draw, it was great for 2 of the English teams (Manchester United and Chelsea) but not so good for Arsenal and Liverpool who were drawn against each other. Just to make things even more interesting they also play each other in the Premier League between the first and second legs. So here's what the draw looks like:-

Arsenal - Liverpool
AS Roma - Man Utd
Schalke 04 - FC Barcelona
Fenerbahce - Chelsea

The semi final draw sees the following:-

Arsenal/Liverpool v Fenerbahce/Chelsea
Schalke/Barcelona v AS Roma/Man Utd

So we could potentially see a Liverpool - Manchester United Champions League final!

Just a quick note to say good look to Liverpool in tonights last Champions League second round second leg game. Taking a 2-0 lead to Inter Milan should be enought to see them through, with any luck there will be 4 Premier League teams in the quarter final draw for the Champions League on Friday.

Chelsea Out, Manchester United Out
Sunday, 9 March 2008
Still can't quite belive what I witnessed yesterday! A little while back I said wouldn't it be great if somebody other than the big 4 would win a cup competition this year? Tottenham duly went on to win the Carling Cup but it says that somebody has been listening to me TOO much, and they said the romance of the FA Cup was dead! I think I'll go with Barnsley to win the FA Cup this year, how could I not after they knocked out both Liverpool and Chelsea?

Sundays FA Cup And Premier League Action

FA Cup

09.03 14:00 Middlesbrough - Cardiff
09.03 17:00 Bristol Rovers - West Brom

I'm not even going to bother trying to predict any results for those two games. Both todays FA Cup quarter finals are on the BBC. Failing that they are being covered by just about every sports channel available online. Any of the usual (ESPN, Guangdong) will be able to sort you out.

Premier League

09.03 15:00 Sunderland - Everton
09.03 15:00 Tottenham - West Ham
09.03 16:00 Wigan - Arsenal

I think Sky have the Wigan - Arsenal game live.

Online Tottenham - West Ham is showing on True Sports 5 on TVAnts, Sunderland Everyon is on True Sports 3 and Wigan, Arsenal is on Star Sports on both TVAnts and Sopcast as well as Supersport 3 on SOPCast.

Liverpool - West Ham
Wednesday, 5 March 2008
Due to Italian clubs being too poor to build their own stadiums there is some Premier League action tonight, Liverpool play West Ham at Anfield with the chance of jumping ahead of Everton into fourth place in the league. The game is being shown live in the UK on Sky Sports 2. Elsewhere you can catch the game live on the internet by tuning in to channel Supersport 5 on SOPCast.

It's also Champions League second round second legs tonight. Chelsea play Olympiakos, Porto play Shalke and Real Madrid play Roma.

All of these games are receiving huge amounts of TV coverage both online and offline, just tune in to the usual suspects.

Could This Be The Closest Premier League Title Race In Years?
Tuesday, 4 March 2008
Great weekend for football, the race for the Premier League title is now really on what with Arsenal dropping another 2 points. Man Utd (Owen Hargreaves proving that he has a much better goals to attempts ratio than Ronaldo when it comes to free-kicks) are only 1 point behind but I don't think anybody should forget about Chelsea. It was also a good weekend for the scouse teams both winning 3-1 (apologies if anybody tried to tune into Sky Sports to catch the Liverpool game, what with it being Liverpool playing I should have known that Setanta would have been showing it).

Tonight sees the second legs of the 2nd round of the Champions League:-

19:45 AC Milan - Arsenal
19:45 Barcelona - Celtic
19:45 Manchester U. - Lyon
19:45 Sevilla - Fenerbahce

As always the TV coverage for the Champions League games is huge in just about every country. If you are stuck though then the following is available online:-

AC Milan - Arsenal, Shanghai Sports, Guangdong Sports, Shandong Sports on TVAns and channels ESPN and NED3 on SOPCast.

Sevilla - Fenerbahce, Superspot 5, alfa and LiveSoccerSports all on SOPCast.

Manchester United - Lyon, Star Sports on TVAnts and Star Sports, Super Sports 3 on SOPCast
